Go Blue or Go Home! Fundraiser Picnic 4-7-13
From the time of its inception in 1997, Working With Autism, Inc. (WWA) has had one simple and clear mission, promoting the growth and success of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). As the number of kids receiving this diagnosis has continued to be on the rise, we have continued to renew our commitment each year to provide quality services that have a measurable positive impact on a child’s development. We have adhered to the belief that success for each child is possible when our work maintains its rigorous adherence to the gold standards set in the field based on research findings.
While grounded in research, what our agency offers goes beyond the science of behavior analysis. Every member of our team is at the core a person who is passionate and dedicated to improving the lives of the children with whom they work. We recognize that we are entrusted with a sacred duty when we are welcome in to the home of a family affected by autism. Our goal of helping a child succeed can only come to fruition when we work hand in hand with the family and other professionals on the child’s team. We strive to see each child in their own unique right, with strengths and complexities unlike any other. We remain mindful of a family’s values, wishes, and dreams and look for the tools necessary to make them come to fruition. Ultimately, this is a dance that requires each of us, as service providers, and family members, to put forth our very best, day in and day out. It is a journey that can have many ups and downs, but the strength of the relationships we forge along, the inspiration we receive from the families with whom we work, has made it possible for all of us continue to put forth our best.
As we celebrate the opportunities we have had to work with so many incredible families and children for the past 15 years, we recognize that our connections to our families and between our staff are what makes this work possible. As a result, we wanted to reach out to all of our families, past and present, and to involve our amazing team, in a gathering this Sunday, April 7th from noon to 3 pm. WWA has joined forces with the yogurt shoppe, an integral member of the Palisades business community to host the Go Blue or Go Home Picnic at the Pacific Palisades Recreational Park. The afternoon promises to be fun for families and kids of all ages as there are a variety of games, activities, and prizes. There will be bounce houses, food trucks, and
frozen yogurt, just to name a few of the highlights.
This event is not only about a day of fun for our families and members of the community, but a representation of our gratitude for being given the chance to work with each child who walks in through our door. We celebrate the work we have been able to do and strive to raise awareness for the need for ongoing research to make additional gains possible for all individuals with ASD. WWA is proud to contribute all proceeds from this event to Autism Speaks; the world’s leading autism science and advocacy organization, dedicated to funding research into the causes, prevention, and treatment of autism. They work to increase awareness of ASD and to advocate for the needs of individuals with autism and their families. We hope that the community will turn out to join us in recognition of Autism’s prevalence, its major impact on the lives of so many, and the necessity of raising funds for supporting efforts to decode its mysteries.
