{"id":27,"date":"2012-06-15T09:09:47","date_gmt":"2012-06-15T09:09:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/workingwithautism.com\/dev\/?page_id=27"},"modified":"2013-02-13T06:55:29","modified_gmt":"2013-02-13T06:55:29","slug":"finding-a-cure","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/workingwithautism.com\/?page_id=27","title":{"rendered":"Finding a Cure"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Is There a Cure for Autism?<\/h2>\n<p>Our understanding of autism has grown tremendously since it was first described in 1943 by Leo<br \/>\nKanner. \u00a0Some of the earlier searches for \u201ccures\u201d now seem unrealistic in terms of today\u2019s<br \/>\nunderstanding of organic brain disorders. \u00a0To cure means: \u201cto restore to health, soundness, or<br \/>\nnormality.\u201d \u00a0In the medical sense, there is no cure for the differences in brain functioning which<br \/>\nresult in autism, although overt symptoms can be alleviated (e.g., reduction in anxiety, improved<br \/>\nattention, etc.). Currently, we are finding better ways to understand the disorder and help people<br \/>\nadapt with the various symptoms of the disability. \u00a0With appropriate intervention, many of the<br \/>\ndeficits and maladaptive behaviors that impact everyday living can be successfully addressed. \u00a0<br \/>\nThe majority of children and adults diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder continue to<br \/>\nexhibit symptoms of autism, to some degree, throughout their lives. \u00a0While not all professionals<br \/>\nagree on what kind of intervention is most appropriate, they all agree that intervention should<br \/>\nstart as early as an Autism Spectrum Disorder is suspected. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Ma6ALpRQpH4?list=PL0717EB02B6722A3B\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Is There a Cure for Autism?
